JOHN PATRICK EGAN: ORIGINS
John Patrick Egan was the eldest of eleven children born to Dominic Joseph Egan and Maria Hurst.  He was born in County Roscommon, Ireland on 6/16/1854.
A well researched website on John Patrick's family is on line at http://wildirishrose.com/Egan/1831DJEgan.html
HONORA GORDON: ORIGINS
Honora or "Nora" was born in the town of Claremorris in 1865.  Tradition is that she was the first-born of Patrick Gordon and Kate Martin, both confirmed (via a record of marriage) to have been Irish Roman Catholics.  Much to our surprise, the preliminary examination of her baptism record at Claremorris yielded a "surprise" entry that the "mother refuses to name who the father is."  Later research tended to "undo" the original suspicion of an out-of-wedlock birth; as it was explained that Nora's father, Patrick Gordon, was probably a "wanted man" at that time, by reason of his participation of the Irish Independence movement.
A special website is under construction to organize and publish the available research Honora's family of origin. The site can be reached at http://www.wildirishroots.com/EGAN/PatrickGordon/PatrickGordon.html  There, the reader will discover further information about Nora's father, Patrick Gordon and his involvement in the movement for Irish Independence... and the proud tradition that he spent time in prison with the movement's beloved and famous leader, Charles Parnell, whose statue now graces O'Connell Street, in Dublin.
